Description: Roman Trumpe-l’oeil (2017-Present) is a poignant take on what it means to be a subject of an empire, a look at figures who dominate us, but who will also become historical subjects. In this work, I adapt an artistic effect and make a pun on the term coined in the Baroque period as trompe-l’oeil (trick-of-the-eye). My sampling of figures in the Trump administration and his orbit illustrates a range of human traits and could be considered personality archetypes. To create the portraits, I used
