Description: Woodcutters and ‘Golpata’ or Nipa palm collectors of Sundarbans are generally called ‘Bawali’. They are one of the major dependents of Sundarbans. For a period of 2-3 months from early January to March, the bawalis collect Nipa palm (Nypa fruticans) or Golpata, which is used for making roofs and mats.
